What is the optimum resolution for viewing web pages?

Is there a standard for this, it doesn't look like there is. Whatever
resolution I use I find some pages to be too large and others too small.

You will see this behavior on various websites, regardless of the resolution
or browser you use. The 800x600 resolution was used as the standard for
building web pages for a long time, but this has changed. If a webpage is
coded properly, it will display properly, regardless of the resolution the
visitor is using.
