What is the most current Signature Version

Where on the Microsoft web site can one got to see what the most current
version of the Definitions file is. I ask this because I am always curious
to see if the auto update feature is actually working.

It would be nice if the Defender home page showed the version stamp of the
most current Signature Version.

As an example right now my status shows 1.12.1282 built on 2/23/2006 as the
version, and it is 2/28, is this the most recent version?

thanks
Dhiren

The home page of WD does list the current signature version loaded on your
PC. The latest version is 1.13.1282.6 built on 2/23/06. There should be an
update within a day or two.

Current is 1.13.1286.1 at the moment -- 2/27/2006 at 6:01 am.

Microsoft's vision is that life will be simpler, rather than more complex as
we evolve--so the hope is that folks will just leave autoupdate enabled and
the definitions will flow. I don't know whether they will provide
documentation of these in any form in the log run, but I'd be surprised if
they featured it promenently at the web site.

Hi Dhiren
You're on the right page for confirmation of signature updates; it all
seems to happens right here!

Thanks for the detail/reassurance Bill and, I also have 1.13.1286.1.

I also seem to have an engine change from 1.1.1185.0 to 1.1.1186.0.

Can anyone else please confirm this too?

If Autoupdate does not work, use Windows Update.

Definition versions are listed at the bottom of the home page.

Other versions are listed in Help, about.

the microsoft win update says no udates but my signature version is old.
1.14.1315.1

and theres nothing on the home website that indicates either the up-to-date
signature or my signatures files. thats why i asked u for a link because i
can't see it. I think i'm just going to unisntall it and stick to my spybot..
at least spybbot updates and scans at schedule times.

1.14.1315.1 is current.

Definitions, historically, have been just slightly more frequent than once a
week.

You should be able to both update and scan on a schedule, including one of
your own choosing. Both functions are controlled by \program files\windows
defender\mpcmdrun.exe

which is a command-line executable--just run it at a command prompt to see
the possible arguments.

It can be scheduled using Windows Scheduled Tasks facility--which is what is
doing the scheduling now. If you've turned that off--or not enabled it,
that would account for a lack of both scheduled scans and updates.

Bill is spot on here. We are not planning any KB which goes into signature
updates like we did with AntiSpyware beta 1. If users are receiving updates
from WU, and WD is not responding with any signature update errors, then the
signatures are up to date.
