what is "synchronizing folders"?

G

George

I'm using Outlook2003w/BCM. There's a small square icon that appears now
and then in the bottom right taskbar and if you mouse-over it, it says
"Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders".

Is this the same thing as just Outlooking checking e-mail every 15 minutes
(or whatever I set it for)?

In the "help" menu, there's talk about working "offline", but my DSL means
I"m "online" all the time.

So, is "synchronizing folders" just a souped up name for 'Outlook is
downloaded emails so you can view them in your inbox even if you turn off
the DSL connection"?

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

Are you using IMAP as your email account? If you are, then synchronizing
folders means that Outlook is checking whether there were any changes to
your folder structure made on the IMAP server. I am not sure if Outlook
2003 also checks with that message whether there are any new messages in
those folders or not, or whether it will show a different message for
that.
