what is msnappau.exe?

msnappau.exe has appeared in my processes list, possibly since SP2.
I've searched the web and can fin lots of references but no
definition.
Possibly an MSN update program?

Does anybody know what this is? If it can be killed and if so how?

It was associated with the MSN toolbar, which I've now uninstalled as
I didn't find it very useful anyway.
