What is E-mail field used for under General Tab of user properties

Any one knows what is the E-mail field used for under
General Tab of the user properties?

Any one knows what is the E-mail field used for under
General Tab of the user properties?

To put there infromation about users e-mail, but only as and information

Actually, this isn't just for information purposes. Users can right-click on
the object and choose 'Send email'. This will then launch your email client
and add this value to the To box.

So, this can be used for emailing users. Obviously with exchange, it's not
that widely used, but there could be instances whereby this is used.
