On my XP pro SP2 system, I note a new "name" appearing when I right-click on
any JPG and BMP file. Listed along with "preview," "zip," "Open With .."
"Send to," etc. is "alopen."

Through curiosity I clicked on it and the generic error message appeared:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." This
does not make sense, since the all my graphic files are already associated
with my Photoshop application. I am not aware of any application called
"alopen" with which JPG files should be associated.

A scan with NAV, Adaware, and Spybot shows no infections. A Google search
shows "alopen" is affiliated with some eastern religion. This doesn't make
sense.

It appears 2850 times in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER;
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT; aand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software. This listings appear in
the order of: \shell; \shell\alopen; and \shell\alopen\command.

Does anyone know what is "alopen"?

Leongee,

1. Try a System Restore rollback.
-or-
2. Create a System Restore snapshot and remove the shell\alopen entry for JPG files in the registry.
