word opening in wordpad

I have a pc running xp pro in sbs 2003 domain environment. One user logs
into this pc and .doc files open in word pad. another user logs into this pc
and .doc files open properly in word. When I look at the file association,
doc says open with word. It does not give me the option to delete the
association. I logged in as admin and still cannot delete the association.
I have tried the "open with" and selecting word to be the default. I found
a write up that give the file association info. It shows as follows:

Rather than hacking the registry, I recommend you try the standard method
explained in Windows Help. Click Start / Help, then search for help on
Associate.

I have already done all the normal windows options. I tried changing it in
folder options - file types. I have tried to use the open with and choose
word that way. Nothing is sticking!!! In the file types, it says it is
using word, but it the icons on the files say wordpad and they keep opening
in wordpad.

I figured it out....I just found another post on how to re-register Word

clicked START - RUN and typed
winword /r

This did the trick. thanks for everyones input.
