What is Acces for and what can I produce with it?

I am new in England and have chosen ICT as one of my general subjects.
I have less time than I have imagined,now and I'm moving closer and closer
towards my deadline.
My problem is: I should give useful information about people who are
interested in entering a club and put and create it in Acces,but I do
understand nothing and I find it really confusing.and that is why I ask:

Does anybody know how to use acces or just wht it does and I can do with it?

Access is a database. We have a phrase in England that applies:

"you have bitten off more than you can chew"

That same phrase would apply in the States.
