cannot ping localhot but acces to internet

Hi everybody,

I have the following problem:

I have two machines both with windows XP home installed on
them and i want to set up a lan between them with a cross
cable

This is my problem: I can't ping 127.0.0.1 on both the
machines but on the other hand i can acces the internet
and load this page... So what is the problem??

I've tried to reinstall the IP stack with the netsh
utility but even that doesn't change anything in the ping
replies...
Does anybody have a proposal to my problem??

Thank you for your feedback

Indeed I have on both computers Norton Firewall installed
How does the firewall interfere with this ping since
localhost doesn't need to access the network medium and is
known as my own computer... and what is a possible
solution if i wan't to keep my firewall??

This is usually because of a firewall

Well as far as localhost goes, maybe you don't care. However you will need
to make accomodations if you ever want file sharing to work between the two
machines.
