What happened to my multimedia version?

I bought a new computer about 2 months ago and am very happy with it.

But I seem to recall that when I bought the computer that when it would
come on for the first few weeks I saw that it was "Windows XP
Multimedia" or something.

Now it seems to be just "Windows XP".

Am I imagining this? Or is it possible that I have a newer version of
Windows XP but I haven't turned something on correctly or haven't
updated it correctly?

Start button --> RUN..
Type in WINVER
Click OK.

What does it tell you that you have? (Picture at the top..)

Problem solved.
That's what you have.

You likely (albeit probably through automatic updates) has SP2 (Microsoft
Windows XP Service Pack 2) installed on the machine - which gets rid of some
of the "branding" at startup. That's all.

What is XP SP2?

So I take it I've got everything and everything is A-OK?

As long as what you bought was Windows XP Media Center Edition - everything
is OK.
