What does this error message mean?

Every so often when I try to start Windows & I wait for a long time
before I end up with a blank screen which only has the number 94
displayed in the right bottom corner. If I then click to reset the PC I
end up with Windows opening correctly. What is the number 94 mean? I
suspect the this occurs whenever Windows doesn't shut down correctly but
I'd like to know what to do about this error number.

What do you see before the '94'? Do you see any of the Windows startup
screens?

This may be a BIOS error code, and have nothing to do with Windows itself.

The very next question would be regarding the state of your backups.

The number 94 is the first thing that I see unless I then press the
reset button.

In that case, it's a basic system problem that isn't related to Windows or
any OS. It's likely a hardware problem.

You'll need to determine the motherboard and BIOS versions, and then perhaps
you can find a BIOS code reference for it. If the system is from a known
and still-operating manufacturer, such as HP or Dell, they may be able to
help you identify the culprit. You may or may not be able to fix it.

If you use the Everest trial-version system audit tool, you will see the
motherboard model and BIOS type and revision.
