I inadvertly deleted a file named aucompat.exe (from
C/Windows/system 32) and now upon startup an error
message states that it "cannot run or load this file",
and to either "make sure file exists or delete its
reference from the registry". What does this file do? Can
I just extract this particular file from the operating
disk or Microsoft website? Or do I have to reinstall
Windows XP Prof. again? Will I lose all the Window's
updates downloaded so far? So far I havent detected
anything that this file has effected by not loading.

Mike, the exact same thing has happened to me. What did you do abou
that annoying popup sign every time you sign on? Did you get rid of i
somehow?
