That's Confidential

Just a general query really.

Anybody willing to tell me what they use Excel for? Does anybody use it on a
daily basis as part of the personal life? I'm not really looking for the
reasons why people use it at the workplace, but why do people use it at
home? Do you use it to manage your budgets etc???? Do you use it as a diary?

Thanks in advance

Excel is excellent for manipulating data. The uses are as
wide as the imagination. There are people who use it to
track the standings in a bowling league, others for
managing a local golf tournament. One can build a loan
calculator, keep track of investments, create budgets
etc. My wife uses it for scheduling her card clubs, I use
it to get the cost basics of an investment and the capital
gains I might incur. Excel is not for everyone but, MS
Works includes a scaled down version which is excellent
for home use. I would suggest visiting a library and pick
up a beginners book on Excel.

On a personal basis, I use it as a tool for encrypting passwords. I designed it out of a need to develope difficult passwords from easier to remember "simple" ones. Professionally, I have a spreadsheet I use to track my sales opprotunities and forcast prospective business throughout the year. I've also developed others for tracking revenue flow, product quotations, even room designs. Its a pretty versital tool.

Excel is a great formatting tool. My wife used to use it to set up
weekly diet tables for patients at nursing homes. The patients had
different requirements based on calories allowed and diet restrictions.
She had to change the daily food menus on a weekly basis, so arrangement
of the tables was important.

I have also used Excel and QuattroPro for creating album pages to
display a stamp collection. You can also keep track of the inventory for
your collection with Excel.

I also keep track of my stocks with an Excel spreadsheet. I can update
stock values directly from the Internet with an Excel add-in. Not doing
too well the last couple of weeks...

I write two monthly columns for a weekly stamp newspaper and keep track
of my articles -- subject, when written, when published, and a hyperlink
column to the Word file for each article. I also keep track of the
members of a philatelic group with an Excel spreadsheet. I use the
addresses in this spreadsheet as a source for a Word mail merge to
create mailing labels for our quarterly newsletter.

Very versatile program.
