What do I do?

I used System Recovery (used the format option) and everything seemed to work fine. I then uninstalled the demo version of Norton Anti-Virus and installed my copy of Norton System Works. There was an error during that installation process, and I had to repair the installation using the CD again. By this time Windows informed me that new updates had been downloaded, and I chose to install them. During the installation of SP1 my computer hung.....would not respond to anything, so I had to shut it off. When I turned it on again, the blue HP logo screen would appear, then the XP loading screen, then the screen would go blank, then the computer would restart. It repeated that several times, so I shut it off. I then turned it on again, entered the BIOS setup and changed my boot drive to CDROM and restarted with my System Recovery disc in (previous recovery used files on a partition). During this recovery there were two errors. There was an error extracting Windows/inf/ie.pnf and another error extracting Program Files/Arcsoft/Showbiz/Content/videos/Waterfalls.mpg. Windows seems to start up fine now

Do I need to run System Recovery again? I don't care about the Arcsoft program...I'm going to uninstall it anyway. Is the other file important? Should I try to update my computer again? The icon for "Updates Are Ready To Intall" appeared as I was writing this message, but will it just hang again on the SP1 installation

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
