download & upload are all fine ... is the very low ping rate I'll want to see. I play online games. :user:

That pings fine. Id be more interested in the ping to the servers than what the speedtest sites say though. :)

I think it depends on how far away from the Telecom Box with Virgin and what speed you get depends on how far you are away from that box the other thing is what the cabling consists of if it is just copper there will be a loss of signal or whether a mixture of copper and aluminum the loss will be greater. I found that from a BT engineer he explained that in the past they used aluminum at one time as it was cheaper than copper but had a greater resistance, ok for speech but bad for for IT.

@bootneck02 That is correct, for a service over BT lines.

Virgin is a different beast entirely.

Well here in our village Virgin supplies a digital cable to our BT distribution box and the signal is transfered to transfered BT cable going to your house and depending on the distance between your house

How do you find Virgin Media Chris? They're awful around here. Seems to be pot luck if your in an over subscribed area or not.

We live in a little village in the countryside so if we weren't cabled, it'd be rubbishy ADSL or bust... I don't think BT offer fibre here yet so the alternative is probably 5-10Mb so VM are the only real option here.

No problems with Virgin Media... we consistently get higher speeds than we pay for (normally around 215/220 downstream when we pay for 200. Seems pretty reliable. I could up the service to 300 down and 20 up if I wanted but there is no need. 4K Netflix streams instantly.

In our village we have a by sight radio signal from a company called Vfast.co.uk subsided by Kent County Council they serve isolated villages like mine in Kent with poor BT connections. The average signal is 20mps but does vary it could be a little less or a bit more. When we first moved here I did try BT but was getting anything between .5 mps to 1mps absolutely useless. Since then they have updated the exchange box and the signal is a lot better but more expensive that Vfast.
