What anti-malware tools do you recommend?

My new gateway laptop with preinstalled vista home premium has McAfee
internet security suite 7.1 preinstalled. I hate McAfee personally and would
rather not use it, however, there seems to be a lot of conflict between vista
and other anti-malware programs. What do you recommend and what works? Also,
if I'm installing/reconfiguring/etc while disconnected from the internet,
would it be safe to turn off that User account control?

Am using Norton Internet Security 2007 and seems to work beautifully and
fast. McAfee was a hog for resources in its last implementation, so I
switched to Norton. Excellent results so far.

Good idea to get rid of McAfee. For non viral malware there is Defender,
Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpyBot S&D and Spyware Blaster to name just some of
them.

For anti-virus there is Avast and AVG (both free), and NOD32 (paid), plus
others.

Vista has it's own firewall.
