What am I missing here...?

X-No-Archive: yes

I have set up a presentation [ppt 2002 -running xp pro, SP2] with a number
of slides, mp3 music over the slides but cannot get it done 'simply'.
That's to say, where or however I insert the music, I cannot get any slides
to 'follow on' until the music stops playing!
I have worked around it by having all slides/events start after the very
first click (start of presentation) and then setting a delay time in
seconds/minutes for each event/slide thereafter to appear.
It seems overly complicated when one can set up events to follow on 'after
previous' for example. The problem seems to be that the background music
has not finished until it's finished..!! Other than loop the music after
each slide - which I do not particularly want to do - what am I missing..?
The presentation works fine... just seems complicated to get it to this
stage..

It appears that the slides WILL move on without problems even with the music
running [I've set the music to play over 'x' files] it is purely the
animation on each slide that won't move on until the music stops...

See my first answer but to move on

If you set the music to stop after x slides then after previous animations
should continue no problem and basically ignore the music.

Sometimes it helps to set the stop playing to 999 slides especially if you
move backwards and forwards through the show but this is unlikely to be your
problem

Do you have sp3 on 2002?

Did that answer the question / help?

Thank you John.

I have SP2 in Windows 2002 and Powerpoint 2002.
I have read the link you posted but it doesn't seem to address my real
problem.
I have no problem with keeping the music playing, the problem I have is to
get any event that happens AFTER the music start event to trigger whilst the
music is playing.
Is this the normal situation? My work around is to get every event
starting "with previous" [which would be the music start event] then just
add a delay to the time before starting for those events.
It's easy enough for a few events but as you add more and more events the
delay in starting "with previous" events starts to get complicated and
difficult to compute...
Is this the only way to do it..? I am sure I am missing something quite
simple here.
The problem is not the music, which I understand and can get operating ok
it's getting subsequent events to trigger before the music stops... does
that make sense?
Is this an issue with powerpoint 2002? Should I upgrade?
