Microsoft has done all they can do at this time. The "pirated" copies your
friends have are unreported numbers - thus it passes the tests. It is
software after all - if there is a way to protect it, there is a way to get
around that protection on stand-alone software installs.

Your morals and conscience mustn't be as strong as you imply, as you didn't
do what your friends did but you choose to allow your friends to do it.
*grin*

How do you propose that he'd have prevented them from pirating the
software? It is pretty stupid to try and make someone feel guilty for
something someone else did.

Only way I could think to try to prevent that would be to threaten to
snitch on them before they installed the pirated software.

I did not say "prevent" - I said "allow" - as in currently allowing them to
continue doing it.
If it bothers them so much and/or offends them enough to bring it up on a
public newsgroup, what is to prevent them from reporting the numbers they
use to Microsoft for banning? Most things in this world are not prevented,
but adjusted for or fixed after the fact.

I could care less what they do, but either stand up or don't mention it..

Oh what a world it is, when a friend snitching on a friend to some
soul-less corporation is a moral thing to do!

I believe that is one of the signs of the coming of the Anti-Christ in
the Book of Revelations! ;-)

Again - I never said what was the moral or the right thing to do.. I have
no opinion on the matter - right and wrong end up being an individual
choice - like everything else.

I wasn't the one nailing myself to the cross with an original post and
complaining about those who hadn't nailed themselves to similar crosses..
heh

Ok, yeah, there's a difference there.
If it bothers them so much and/or offends them enough to bring it up on a
public newsgroup, what is to prevent them from reporting the numbers they

Ok, then how should he go about obtaining those numbers? He'd have to be
kinda sneaky about it, I'd think.

I have to disagree; I used to work as a traffic signal control technician :)
I could care less what they do, but either stand up or don't mention it..

I see your point.

Simple enough.. MagicJellyBean Keyfinder on a diskette with other stuff the
person wants to see, when the opportunity arises, run it. Sneaky - depends
on how you look at it.. Seems simplistic to me. With the way most people
protect their system, the OP might be able to get it remotely over a network
or perhaps just pop in to check on a movie schedule or.. well - the ways are
endless really.

hah - Okay - as with anything, there are exceptions. However, would the
wrecks at traffic signals be the inability of the drivers to adjust after
the light changed? *grin*
I see your point.

Thanks. =) I see your point as well. Clarification was necessary.

Endless... and still sneaky :)

To be completely honest, I am surprised there aren't more wrecks.
Thanks. =) I see your point as well. Clarification was necessary.

:) It helps. Thanks.

It was just a joke, making fun of this thread. I meant nothing
personally towards you, Shenan, your post was just the appropiate place
to reply with my joke.

Back in the early 80s there we're people saying that about anything with
a IC chip in it or a barcode on it. Maybe they still are for all I know.

I can tell you this much, as far as I'm concerned my ex-bank is the
Anti-Christ. Evil b*stards...
