WEP problems with XP

I am using a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with the truemobile 1300 mini
WLAN g/b card and Windows XP - I have the latest XP updates as well as
the most current Broadcom drivers for the wireless card.
I can connect to my company's wireless access point (Dell AP-1000) in
unencrypted mode just fine (I have it set up to allow unencrypted as
well as WEP connections right now).
When connected, I can change the properties of the wireless connection
and enter the WEP keys - I enter 26 hex digits (we are using 128-bit
encryption). I enter those twice and then OK / OK and it saves -- I
can then look at the connection properties and it is in fact using
WEP. However, I disconnect / reboot / anything that causes the
connection to get lost and have to reconnect, then it will say
"Connection failed!" (a popup) and not connect. If I change out of WEP
to Open, then it will work again... then I can enter the keys again
for WEP etc... Its like it does not save the WEP keys correctly. When
I go back in, the textboxes are greyed out and I can see a lot fewer
than 26 digits... not sure if this related or not, but it appears
suspicious.

What the heck is going on and how can I fix it?
I also tried turning off the zero-config wireless service so I have to
actually specify the WEP key type, the problem works the same way...

Any ideas?

When WZC is disabled, you should enter the keys, passphrase, ssid, and
all the rest into the properties of the wireless card itself in device
manager. They should then remain fixed.

Thanks for the response. This did not make a difference. However, I
did note that when I changed the configuration of the Access Point to
WEP only (instead of allowing WEP as well as insecure connections),
the problem went away. So it appears that WinXP clients are only
compatible with WEP enabled access points using WEP only if the access
points do not allow non-WEP connections?
