Welcome screen shows after Screen Saver

D

Darrell S

For years, after my screen saver has activated, if I come back and move the mouse or touch a key, my normal Windows screen displays again. Recently it began showing the Welcome screen when I moved the mouse or touched a key. Then I had to click my User name to return to Windows display.

A little research found that my ScreenSaver setup had a checkmark before "on resume display welcome screen". I removed that checkmark and my screen saver returned to its normal operation. Is that Welcome screen option something new that got installed by a Windows update? I know I never placed that checkmark there.

Depends on a number of things.

On resume
[[Specifies whether the logon window is displayed when you resume using
the computer after the screen saver has started running. If logging on
requires a password, you will have to type the password when you resume
work.]]

If not password protected, this shows...
On resume, password protect

If Fast User Switching is turned on, this shows...
On resume, display Welcome screen

Selecting the On Resume, password protect check box will lock your computer
when the screen saver is activated. When you begin working again you will be
prompted to type your password to unlock it.

On resume, display Welcome screen is displayed if...
• Welcome Screen enabled
• Fast User Switching enabled
• More than one user

On resume, display Welcome screen will change to On resume, password protect
if not enough users.

That is all very interesting but does not address the question. How did my
Screen Saver resume function get changed without input from me?

That link is about the Welcome screen showing at bootup. My computer didn't
do that. As I said, it only did that after Screen Saver activation and my
subsequent mouse movement or keyboard use to return from Screen Saver.
