Welcome/Log In screen - Trivial Question

I have had my Dell computer with XP on it for several years. When
turned on my computer it went straight to the desktop and was ready t
go. Recently it started goint to the XP Welcome/Log In screen. Thi
is a family computer and there are currently no user accounts wit
passwords set up. We haven't needed to go through the step of loggin
on. Like I said, this is quite trivial, but it's one more step I nee
to go through.
I have played around behind the scenes in my computer in any way I ca
(without ruining anything) and haven't been able to undo this. I a
good enough with the control panel stuff to be dangerous. :)
Now, my guess is that I need to set up accounts with passwords becaus
I think my 10 year old daughter may have somehow created this littl
problem

Hi Farrellta

If you have problems in removing the login screen then double click the User
Accounts icon in Control Panel. Then click on "change the way users log on or
off" and clear the check box with Use the welcome screen. That should solve
the problem. If that does not solve the problem (which would be quite rare)
you can use TweakUI and set one of the users to automatically login (these
and related options appear in the logon tree in the left).

The reason behind this problem could be a windows update you might have
recently installed or as you mentioned your daughter. I do not think its a
cause of worry (afterall malwares rarely take action to make your computers
more secure ;))
