Weird problem - Outlook will only download headers, stops downloading message

Hi everyone -
Last weekend, OL2003 started having problems staying connected to my
IMAP server (I do not use exchange). Suddenly, it would only download
the headers, but not the messages. When I mark those messages to
download, OL tries several times (within a few seconds of each try) to
update the cached headers and then says the request could not be
completed by the IMAP server before the connection was terminated.
I have unloaded the entire Office 2003 Prof install, and then
reinstalled. Same thing happens. I discovered that if I delete the
email account and the profile (including the .pst files), and then
recreate the email account and profile the problem seems to be solved
- OL2003 works fine - for a while. But if I close OL, and then open
it, the behavior reoccurs - headers only, no message body. If I delete
the email account again, and delete the .pst files, then recreate the
email account again (and the profile), it works until I close OL
again. Also, if I allow OL to run for about twenty minutes without
closing it (using it like I normally would - send/receiving email,
etc), it will suddenly stop downloading the messages again, and then
show a message that the request could not be completed before the
connection to the server was terminated as mentioned above.
This is crazy. I can delete the account, recreate it and OL behaves
normally for about twenty or so minutes. If I close OL and open it
again, then it downloads the headers but not the messages. I checked
to make sure the Send/Receive options were set to download headers and
attachments, etc. I don't understand why it works normally then only
downloads the headers only after a short time or after I reopen it? It
can't be the size of the ,pst files because I delete them all. I ran
scanpst on the .pst files right after the problem occurred, and it
reported there were errors. I had it repair the files, but that did
not clear up the problem at all.

Any ideas? How does OL run normally for awhile, and then suddenly
stop downloading the messages only? Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks
