Weird Outlook Express Mail Problem

Hello there...I am running Windows XP Home with Service pack 2....I Live in
NH...My Girlfriend lives in IL...Somehow over the last 6 Months, copies of
all my Verizon emails have been going to her Outlook express...Actually she
gets more emails than I do, since during this timeframe I have had problems
recieving emails...She Just discovered this tonight...went to Outlook and
found over 3000 emails of mine in her inbox...In the past, I have logged in
to MSN on her computer and have used Outlook on it also, but never made any
changes or imported anything...My VERIZON with MSN DSL account is password
protected...The last time I was on her computer was 6 months ago and it has
been shut down countless times since then, So how can this be?...We checked
all properties and her email account is still the default...We tried
different settings changes, but nothing seemed to help...Verizon Cust Support
was useless as always...Can anyone help me retake full ownership and privacy
of my emails?..Thanks Much For Any Suggestions and Help!!

Sounds like an ideal question for the boys in the
Outlook Express newsgroup.

babishop,

Assuming both of you have Verizon POP3 accounts, this means both of you are
using the same incoming server address. The only difference should be the
log in name in the account settings. It seems somehow she is logging in to
your Verizon e-mail account.

If she opens Outlook Express > Tools > Accounts > Mail tab, double-clicks
her Verizon account, then clicks the 'Servers' tab. She should have her
Verizon login name & password (The same one used to view online Verizon
e-mail) typed in) and also

Incoming address: incoming.verizon.net

Outgoing address: outgoing.verizon.net

'Logon using Secured password authentication' should be unchecked.

Your setup should be the same except for the logon name & password

Do you share a Verizon mailbox (IOW are both of your email addresses
associated with the same Verizon subscription)?

PS: If she has over 3,000 emails in her Inbox, let alone 3,000 of /your/
messages, she should be /very/ worried.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

The Subject says Outlook Express, yet you mention Outlook.
Outlook is a different program.

Have your emails been going to her computer for 6 months or did all of the
emails just get downloaded?

Is her account the only account under Tools, Accounts, Mail tab?

babishop,

Glad to hear that.

An easy way to set up your future e-mail accounts would be to open Outlook
Express > Tools > Accounts > Mail tab, click on your account and select
'Export'. Save to a backup somewhere. Then, when you need to set up that
particular account on a new computer for example, return to the above
location and select 'Import' and locate the saved account settings. This is
by far the easiest way to set up or return an e-mail account.
