MSN Explorer

My friend is having trouble with an error message when she tries to send an
email in msn premium which she has not found a solution. This happened after
she downloaded and installed windows live mail. My thought is to uninstall
msn explorer through the windows component in control panel, and then
reinstall msn explorer through add and remove. Does anyone know whether this
would take care of the problem? If she does this, would she have to start
from scratch to set up her msn premium email client through her server,Time
Warner? She currently is using XP with SP2 and MSN Premium 9.5. I hope I am
in the right forum.

Pa Bear, at this time we are beyond trying to solve it from the error
message. I would not have any idea how to do that, and I cannot find anything
about it on through Google. We would just like to know what problems we may
run into if we uninstalled it through windows components, then download, and
install the same version again. She gave me the error message some time back
and I lost it. I believe it said, MSN has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I have never had to uninstall and
reinstall MSN Explorer so I am not sure how to explain this to the person
with the problem. I do not have physical access to the computer. As I
understand it the address book, and the inbox are stored on the servers so
she should not loose any of her emails. Do you know of a way to back up the
e-mail in the inbox just to be on the safe side? This started after she
downloaded and installed windows live. She can use window live, but she wants
MSN back. Thanks.

Your friend should contact MSN tech support and have them deal with her
directly.

I agree with you Malke, it would be better to do that. However, I have heard
people from other forums saying that a lot of times these techs cannot fix
their problems either, concerning this very same error message. A lot of
these techs do not speak English clearly enough, and that is very
flustrating, to say the least. Since I do not have physical contact with this
computer, I will advise her to call the folks at MSN to help her. Thank you
for the information.

If she has error number, all she has to do is give that and she should be
transferred directly to tech support. I always got a nice polite English
speaking person.

Additionally, it would not bother me if I got a non-English speaking person.

That might be fine for you, Mae.

I'm for multi-culturalism and all that, too.

However, for many of us, trying to understand someone in technical support
who gives us instructions in English with an accent so thick that it makes
their words virtually unintelligible is really not a solution.

mae, be advised that some people has hearing problems to begin with, and the
accent of the non-English speaking person will flustrate the caller, as well
as the tech support person. I have had that happen many times, and it is very
aggravating. I think English speaking people needs to speak with some one
that is fluent in English. This is, Imho. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks marx404. I think your right on that, and that is what I will suggest
to her. I thought that it may be as simple as uninstalling and reinstalling
MSN Explorer, but that must not be the case here.

I'm forwarding this to MSN Discussion newsgroup
(microsoft.public.msn.discussion) via crosspost for you, Wayne. Other than
direct support from MSN, that's your best bet. Keep in mind that all MS
newsgroups only offer peer-to-peer support.

Please continue the crossposting to both newsgroups in all replies. (And
considering these newsgroups are available to anyone on earth with an
internet connection, let's please refrain from any further xenophobia, too.)

Yes, you can uninstall MSN Explorer from Control Panel and you can reinstall it
from the CD or via download from http://membercenter.msn.com (or the partner ISP
site if it is a broadband partner provided MSN Explorer - I don't know how the
Time Warner deal is set up)
When you do this, the profiles and all settings are not lost. Mail is on the
Hotmail servers and will sync back up with the PC upon connection - even if the
local folder is deleted.
