WebDAV (Add Network Place Wizard) does not work ...

M

Michael Steiner

Hi,

I just slipstreamed my Windows XP CD with SP2 and reinstalled my whole
computer. Everything works fine, so far. But: when I try to add a new
network place over the wizard (in the "My Network Places" folder), it
throws a

"The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose
another."

If anybody with SP2 could try to add the following folder:
"https://mediacenter.gmx.net", that would be very helpful.

I have a clean installation here, no junk system. I don't remember
setting anything preventing SSL-connections, and I also don't need a
proxy.

Actually, when I omit the "s" of "https", the system "thinks" a short
moment, and there is network activity. When I try plain "https", it
immediately shouts the error message at me.

All solutions on the web I've found are for Microsoft
Office-installations only ... so anybody else experienced that problem?

Thanks,

Michael

It would actually prove helpful, if some guys (and girls) here may try

to know any username/password: if you have SP2 _AND_ the user/password
dialog appears, you're better off then I am.

So please: try it, and post here if you succeeded (with which operating
system and which service pack).

Thanks

Michael,

just tried and got the username and password dialog box. So it's
not a general SP2 problem.

But I don't know a solution for your case. One thing that you
could always try is a repair installation, according to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm, and you could also check the
other points in that list.

Thanks Hans,

I just solved the problem by running the webfolders.msi file in
%WINDIR%/SYSTEM32, and guess what: everything works perfect now.

No idea what the reason was, but actually, that's all I wanted.

Bye

Michael,

thanks for reporting back! Now I'll sit here pondering the
thought how you got the idea. :)-)

actually im having the same problem on both my computers, now that they have
sp2.

want to add a network place with "http" (http://www.davincihotel.com) and
all i get is the famous "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid.
Please choose another." ...looks like its searhing for a shared folder on the
davincihotel.com server....wont ask for username etc, but whats interesting
is if you specify the address with a folder
(http://www.davincihotel.com/new/) the little window asking for username and
password pops-up almost instantly as it supposed to in both cases.

the unfortunate thing for me is that coz of this im not able to open the
website in frontpage either.

can someone please look into this? tried the same thing as michael, but no
luck, still the same.

Thank you!
