webcam not getting installed

I had bought a webcam some two years ago and had used that in
win98se for some time. Then, I got bored, and removed it.

At least, it meant that the device and drivers were ok.

Ever since, I have upgraded to xp, and when I tried to install
that same webcam on xpsp2, it doesn't work.

I still have the installation cd, and the software is running
and installing smart camera ver 2.1, and some pro camera. It
gets installed in c:\program files\mingjong, and has amcap.exe,
videomail, videomonitor, etc.

I still have the manual and it shows the photo of the camera and
identifies it as M6512/ M6522. Amcap shows "713x TV card
capture" and recognizes my avance sound card.

However,:

- the diode on the camera doesn't glow.
- xp doesn't run "new hardware found" wizard.
- when I run amcap, it shows the "snow" in the video capture
screen (the way tv shows, when there is no signal).

Forcibly running "add new hardware" doesn't find it.

The possibilities are:

- I have 2 usb ports at rear and 2 usb ports at front of my pc.
I have put this webcam in one of the rear usb port, whereas the
other rear usb port has my adsl modem installed (which is
working). front two usb ports don't have anything.

do all usb ports work independentaly?

could the adsl modem be conflicting with the webcam?

I have exhanged the ports of modem and webcam. modem is now
working in the other port, and webcam is still not working on
the port where modem was previously there and working.

I have also removed modem's socket once, and restarted the pc
with webcam only. but it didn't work.

I could uninstall the TV tuner card, but that is not the
solution, I think. I need to use both. How do people having TV
tuner card working with webcam?
------------

- I have internal TV tuner card installed and working.

Could it have monopolized the capture/ video card, thus not
allowing the webcam to work?

---

- The programs/ drivers were ok for 98se, but not fit for xp.

well. what to do about it?

The manual does say that the drivers are for 98se AND ABOVE.

----

- The manual says that it needs directx 6.0 or above.

my xp has directx 9.0, i think.

-------

- The webcam could have broken down.

Well. It was safely kept and there is no mark on it. I don't
remember of having got it falled, nor struck with anything. its
lens and diode are intact.

could someone please guide me how to remove possiblities?

If the webcam vendor has web site, start there checking for Windows XP
compatible drivers and software. Windows 98 drivers are not likely to be
compatible with Windows XP.
