webcam and chat

i have just joined a site to do with webcams and chat but
when i try to view someones cam or chat box they come up
blank with a little cross in the top left hand corner.can
anyone tell me why this is and how to fix it

it depends which site you are referring to. a site with webcam may either
use java, or active x (or even dhtml as with yahoo!).
for java, try http://java.sun.com. active x for that matter, i think,
downloads by itself.
