Web Site Import

G

Guest

I have a 90 plus page web site that I constructed using cute Site builder. I use a html nested menu system by Dynamic Drive rather than links. When I try to import the site into Front Page, all I get is the first page (index page) How can I get all of the pages into Front Page without importing each one individually? I want to convert to Front Page since it appears to be mroe flexible. Thanks

Is the site currently functioning and online? Does the ISP have FrontPage extensions installed? What version of FrontPage are you using?

Have you tried to open it live online with FP and then publish to a new
folder on your PC?

The web site is currently up and running. My ISP does have FrontPage extensions installed. I am using FrontPage2003.

sounds like your trying to do it from Edit (with FP)
Open the site live with FP then Publish it to your hd.

NO. I am trying to import from my ISP. I have three other sites that I have created with Cute Site Builder. I have been successful in importing them from my ISP into Front Page and converting them to FP formats. This one, also created by Cute Site Builder AND on the same ISP only goes as far as the index. The problem, as I see it, is that the pages are not linked by standard hot links but are linked by a third party html nested menu structure. It appears that FP is trying to follow page links that are not there.

When I use the other import link in FP -- importing from a file on my hard disk, it wont read the TLX file (TLX is the extension given the file by CSB - it is an entire file not individual pages)

NO I am not. I have three other sites on this ISP all created by Cute Site builder. I successfully downloaded them into FP and have converted them to FP formats. The difference is on this larger one, is that I use a html nested menu system rather than standard page links and the only page that will download is the index as FP apparently is looking for page links that do not exist.

Also, FP is not reading the .tlx extension that CSB gives to the file on my hd co I can't import from my hd either.

Sorry dunno about tlx - but I do know that Importing does not bring everything down...use FP Publish to publish from the server to folder on your local machine.

In FP File Import (a web / site) only downloads what the browser can see
- think of it as an automated File Save as in IE
- it will not download all files on a server

Since your host does not have the FP SE, recommend using a FTP program to download the whole web to a top level Folder on your PC,
and then in FP File Open Web/Site and browse to that folder(FP will convert the folder to a disc based web)

To All: the solution, after several hours of trial and error was to use a third party FTP program. I downloaded the entire site file by file using Cute FTP 5.0 into a Folder on my HD and now I have it. Apparently, using a third party nested menu system such as I have rather than just menu links prohibits FP from finding the other pages. Thanks to all who replied.

In that case...

1. Create a fold in your root directory to contain your website (e.g. C:\yourweb)
1. Launch FP2003
2. Select File | Open Web (or whatever 2003 calls it)
3. Input your website's URL, then your password
4. Select File | Publish
5. Select C:\yourweb as the location, and then Publish All FIles

File | Open Web (or Open Site if FP 2003), input the URL to the remote site.

I have Frontpage 2003 and have created a large website over the years. My
computer crashed on New Year's Eve and 10 days later a technician came and
took everything off my computer and re - installed it. He lost all my
Documents in the process. Frontpage 2003 was re-installed, but it had no
information on it for my webpages. I tried to gain access to my remote
website to bring it into Frontpage, but was stopped x 2. The first reason is
that it asked for a password. Well, I had had a password but it had been put
in memory by my web server and so I never knew what it was. My web server
has had a stroke and her friend has been helping. However, he was no help.
He said he had changed the password so that I could get in and told me what
it was, but when I put the password in, the box blanked out and wouldn't
accept it. In addition, a notice came up saying that Web Server may not have
Front Page extensions installed etc. The web server's friend stated that the
extensions were installed. My Front Page software was bought by me and I
have the product key. What can I do? I am not only using this website for
my business with a shopping cart, but I also am keeping a webpage for a Fair
Planning Committee I am on and it needs to be updated 10 days ago. What to
do What to do What to do?
