Web Search Component - No Results

I have a problem getting the default search component on frontpage 2003 to
return any results. The server is running 2003 and has indexing installed.
The indexing service is also allowed. The web site is being indexed and if I
query the index on the server I get results. When I search through the bot
on the web page I don't get results, just tells me no documents found. Is
there just another switch I'm missing somewhere. I'm starting to get
frustrated.

Forgive my ignorance but what is that and how would I go about doing it?

I see what you mean by catalog. No I used the existing web catalog and
added the directory of the web site to it so it would be indexed.

There is a line in path-to-website\_vti_script\searchpagename.htm0.idq
that occasionally goes adrift:

cicatalog=C:\WebSites\Cats\sitename where c:\websites\cats\sitename is the
path to the catalogue for your site.

If this line is missing, or pointing to the wrong path, then no documents
will be found when searching from the web.

If this line is correct then try posting in the Index Server group, or
looking at the past posts in
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.frontpage.extensions.windowsnt
, where this is a regular topic.

That line is missing but the path's you gave me don't match up to what I
have. I have c:\inetpub\catalog.wci\ with no sub dir's under it. There's
definitely indexes in that dir but when I set that line in idq file the
search really bombs with no page found instead of returning no results.

You should use C:\inetpub without \catalog.wci

The path I gave was for my system.

Tried that and it goes back to telling me no documents found when I search.

Well I figured it out after much clicking.
If you go to the properties of the web catalog, under the tracking tab
there's an option to change the www server. I changed it from the default
server to the web I'm trying to get search to work with and then I get
results. So what exactly does this change effect? Am I going to be able to
search any other webs if it's set this way?

My best guess is you are restricted to searching the server listed in the
catalogue properties. My own system is set up with separate catalogues for
each virtual server, but I did have the missing cicatalog line problem in
one of the idq scripts.

I suggest you take the same route - a separate catalogue for each virtual
server.
