"Web page unavailable while offline"

Oftentimes while I am offline (56 K Dial-Up Connection) I get a pop-up box that says "Web page unavailable while offline".

The new pop-up window has 2 buttons that I can choose from- "Connect" or "Stay Offline. It happens when I am working in Excel, Word or any program. In no way was I trying to access a webpage when I got these boxes, which will appear oftentimes 2 or 3 times in a row. Generally I just hit hit the X in the right hand corner of the box, and they close.

They pop up while I am offline, and also when I first connect, they will sometimes pop up, after I have connected via my "Dial Up Connection".

It is annoying, especially when I am offline, have no interest in going on line, and have to keep closing the box before I can continue whatever I was working on

I have run Spybot, and even after a clean sweep, I still get that "Web Page unavailable while offline". I have my XP firewall on. IS this an Explorer issue, or is it a security issue. How do I resolve this problem

I run Windows XP Professional, on a Dell Dimesion 4600, and I have Internet Explorer 6

Thanks

IS this an Explorer issue, or is it a security issue.

We need more information about the URL involved.
One explanation is that the page contains something in its source
which is forcing a refresh. And one possible example of that
would be

<example>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10;URL=index.html">
</example>

If you were online they could be doing this to try giving you
a different ad every 10 seconds.

That particular example can be defeated by disabling a Security option:
Allow META REFRESH

Other possibilities could be defeated by disabling scripting.

How do I resolve this problem?

Usually the simplest thing to do when you encounter such cases
is just close the window which is causing the symptom.

I understand that IE allows the user to define which pages
he would like to view offline.

Do you know how the data is stored? Is there a database or
database table this information is stored in?

Thanks,
Allen

What I do is Save the Page as Web Page complete and direct to download to a
selected folder just for that.

All the necessary files will be placed in that folder and possibly some sub
folder for you to look at.
