I currently have window XP home edition. I'm currently working on a website and I would like to host it myself. Would the current operating system that I have, be enough for the task? If so, what steps do I need to take to configure my computer to host my own site?

You won't be able to use XP home for IIS. The pro version comes with it
included.
Have a look at the windows version of Apache. It looks complicated at first
but if you go through the configuration script slowly and without panicking
it's pretty easy
