Web browsing extremely slow

Hi: Very strange thing going on...I have a laptop that is connected via a
linksys router. When I log on to the laptop, I have a very good signal
strength...11 to 24Mbps the majority of the time. Once I get to my home page
and try to open another website, it takes forever to load up the new website.
I can switch to another system (my neighbors) which has less signal strength
(I don't like to do this) but I'm able to pull up different websites faster.
What's up? Could it be my router settings or is it something with the
settings on my laptop? My main/host computer pulls up websites fast. I'm on
cable modem. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Details - Windows XP Home Edition, Internet Explorer, Linksys Router - same
on host and laptop.

Thanks in advance!

Shot in the dark:
You may be getting good signal strength but you may also be getting a
lot of interference. Check to see if your neighbor with the weaker
signal is on a different channel. You might want to experiment
changing channels on your wireless router. Preferred channels are 1,
6, and 11.

The router is working with channel 6 which it is set in auto mode and as I
understand will pick the channel with the best signal strength. The model of
linksys that I'm running is wrt300N.

My spouse has a laptop that works fine on our wireless network. I'm
beginning to wonder about the gateway laptop that I'm using...are there
settings or something I can check to see what would cause it to be very slow
opening websites? I have Norton and it states there is no spyware or viruses
on the system.

Thanks so much for addressing my questions.

Have you tried deleting your IE Temporary files? When the Temporary
files area gets too big (or gets corrupted), things can really bog
down...

Control Panel->Internet Options->General Tab->Delete Files.

While you're there, go into settings and set the buffer size to about
100 MByte or so to keep it from getting too big.

I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 6400. Were you able to
fix this problem ?
