WD will not update automatically

I go on the update site and I find new definitions. Try to update from about
wd. I will not update until I remove the old definitions. Any help would be
appreciated. I get no error messages.

I would just hold tight for a bit. You've got a fix that works, and I
believe this is being worked on. Clearly AutoUpdate is not completely
broken, because you say that it works after you do the remove. I'd give it
another definition cycle or two and see what happens.

This has been going on for me for a whie though. Today will be the third time
I have had to remove and reinstall the definitions because I again have the
warning message that Defender has not been updated in 14 days. Even updating
manually will not work until the old definitions are removed. It tries to
connect and then after a period of time I am told that the definitions and
the Defender engine are up to date; but the error doesn't go away and the
date on the definitions file does not change. At least I know now it's not
just me.

It is definitely not just you. Microsoft is aware of the issues and working
on fixes.
