Error 0x80040154 - WD Defs Do Not Update

G

Guest

I successfully installed WD. When I select "Check for Updates", I receive
error message "WD was unable to complete the update: 0x8004154 Class not
registered".

When I was initially installing the WD software, I did initially have a
problem with needing "GUI+" which was documented in the known issues for WD.
I was able to properly install.

I have restarted the system but have not tried to reinstall the program.
The WD program appears to be working other than the problem (noted) of not
being able to update definitions.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Same problem. Are the others of you able to run automatic updates? On the
PC in question, I am getting error 0x80070005 and think it may be related.

Check the Application Event Log for more details.

I found that mine was checking my Internet favorites on my network drive. I
changed the registry to reflect it back to the local C: drive and it was all
ok.

Perhaps you can paste your Application Event log for WD here.

I meant if you look in the Windows "Event Viewer" (via "Administration Tools"
or within the My Computer Management Console), and then select "Application
Log"

I Got this error:-

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11327
Date: 16/02/2006
Time: 18:26:14
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: LAPTOP
Description:
Product: Windows Defender Signatures -- Error 1327.Invalid Drive: M:\

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 7b 41 35 43 43 32 41 30 {A5CC2A0
0008: 39 2d 45 39 44 33 2d 34 9-E9D3-4
0010: 39 45 43 2d 39 32 33 44 9EC-923D
0018: 2d 30 33 38 37 34 42 42 -03874BB
0020: 44 34 43 32 43 7d D4C2C}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I searched the registry with "M:\" drive and replaced it with the "C:\"
drive.

Have you got a log entry similar to that?

Hope that helps
Cheers
Steve
