Way to Abort CHKDSK in Progress?

I had previously scheduled a CHKDSK and forgotten that fact, then
rebooted and had to wait a long time for CHKDSK to complete, while I
had more pressing priorities. I understand how to reverse a CHKDSK
that has been scheduled and is pending, but what I wish to know is
whether there is any prescribed and safe way to abort a Windows XP
CHKDSK that has been commenced after rebooting.

Thanks.

I wouldn't. It would be better to just go get a cup of coffee or
something.

Thanks. Plenty of time to go order one of those multi-syllabic
Starbuck's lattes, I guess. :-)
