I have an issue with my sound that I absolutely haved no idea what to do.I
upgraded home to pro, and now I cannot some of my default sounds to play.
Like Ican get my cds to play, and can hear the sound files play when I go
into sounds devices etc. But sound does NOT play when I open volume control
and move thecurser up and down. It does not beep. And also there are no start
up and shutdown wavs either. I have done everything humanly possible to fix
this and cannot. I resinstalled soundblaster, did drivers, did devices and
reinstalled.

Can Anyone help?

Did you go to START CONTROL PANEL SOUNDS and then check under Windows
if there were still little Yellow speakers by each of the operations you want
sound for????

I have sound from my speakers. I don't have my default sound beep which is
odd, I also don't have my start up wav and shutdown.wav They all play when I
go into sounds and the scheme. Like I said I am at my wits end. I am running
windows xp mpro from a home edition upgrade.

You may go to the source I put in my last post and then try assigning any
wav sound from another directory to that operation and then reboot and see if
that works. If it does, then possibly the reference directory has been
changed and you may have to check properties of the sounds you want and see
where they are suppose to be and be sure that they are there. If NO sound
works, then I would suggest you go to Windows update and load ALL updates.
You may just did a patch. You did say you UPGRADED from Home edition and you
may require patches from the Windows Update site. Good lUck.

Also you may also check to be certain that after the update that the same
administrator has the permissions.. Just a thought. My old XP had everything
under OWNER and my NEW XP has me under administrator and I had to Boot in
Safe Mode and assign everything in the drive to the NEW User that had all of
the permissions.
