I want to use a watermark to protect a document. I created the watermark
with format / background. I don't want the email recipient to be able to use
the document - that's why I need the watermark. If the email recipient can
just view the document in another view format and the watermark disappears,
what good is it?? Thanks.

There is no way a watermark will prevent an email recipient from using a
document. The watermark will print if the recipient prints the document, but
a knowledgeable recipient can remove the watermark unless the document is
protected.
