Watching the number of page faults go up in task manager

Just exploring Task Manager and noticed Page Faults for wltray.exe
jump up 500 (about a one second interval)with no apps running. Is this
normal? It happens with other processes but not as many faults at a
time.

I count 66 processes visible in TM but it says 88 are running. How
do I find out what the other processes are?

TIA

Wltray.exe and wltrysvc.exe install with the wireless suite for Broadcom or
Dell's wireless adapters. Check with the relevant manufacturers and see if
they have an answer.

Re number of tasks shown: is the box 'show processes from all users'
checked? Also, posdsibly, options check show 16 bit tasks (though you
probably don't have any).

The name Page Fault sounds like a problem but don't mean you have to
do something so you have zero PFs. You may be able to reduce the
number by knowing what a PF count means. perhaps they should rename
the column "valid page fault" or something less scary.

You can see millions of PFs for a process that is not otherwise
afflicted. XP is doing it's job. It is counting the times XP does
the job - which can be frequently if you watch it.

There is a lot to read about PFs and why they happen. Here is a
paragraph or two and other good reading:

The Virtual Memory column is also a good one - who is consuming the
most VM on your system?!

Some things in TM - like the multiple svchosts have other little tasks
running under them. If you want to understand all that, Process
Explorer is a popular tool to peek at what they are doing and why
having more than one is not necessarily a problem:

Questions are good, but I don't like to answer questions with
sentences that use words like: possibly, maybe, might, could be, etc.
I need to know for sure what is going on.

If you have more, c'mon back.
