Warnings Up the Ying-Yang

Larry(LJL269)

1 When I open packages containing my pics in RTF file I get security
warning.
2 When I open html saved via IE, I get ActiveX warning at top.

1 are mostly screenshots & 2 I dont save unless I'm ok running
ActiveX. I'm getting warned way too often. If its on my HDD I dont
need any warnings!

I've already set
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations]
DWORD value name= DefaultFileTypeRisk to decimal Value= 6152

I run XPhome so I dont have gpedit.msc. If I could get my PC in
trusted zone, I'd be fine. Tried in desperation to put my IP in there
but didnt work maybe cause I have a router.

Your help is MUCH appreciated.
Thanks- bye- Larry

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Greetings & thank you for your response.

That worked for #2! ActiveX filled-in some elements of page & opened
page at http://media.fastclick.net/ which contained nothing since it
is in Restricted Zone. I luv ie-spy-ad ! (I got Spywareblaster also)

IMHO Internet Options > Advanced & Security tabs r among the most
confusing & poorly documented MS elements. Test pages would help for
some settings- I kept my own for both 1 & 2 above.

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.
Thanks- bye- Larry

Hello,

For (2), try this

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > CHECK "Allow
active content to run in files on My Computer"

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.
