Warning...Don't Install It!

Not Vista RC1 what a great improvement from Beta 2...keep at it builders!
It's faster and seems smoother running than Beta 2...still some issues, but I
think will eventually be a terrific system...IMHO...of course.

What you shouldn't install is the Catalyst Center RC1 Vista upgrade drivers.
When I did; I got that wonderful blue screen of death and continual
re-boots...did a system restore from safe mode.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 card that I purchased especially to test
Vista...but I cannot figure out how to install the TV Tuner card that this
came with...works perfectly on XP and also on Beta 2...has any one figured
out how to do this? RC1 will not let me run the setup disk...I downloaded
all I could find from the ATI site, but I must be missing something! Device
manager is all good!

I stopped using ATI cards a long time ago because of all kinds of problems
like this, NVIDIA chip cards are much better and just work.

Keep in mind the Catalyst "BETA" Driver for Windows Vista RC1 does NOT
include the WDM drivers for the TV and capture. But, soon to be released in
the next version.

Seconded! I let Windows Update attempt to install them and got an
instant BSOD. Had to do the Safe-mode-roll-back-the-drivers thing.

Today I manually installed them after shutting down everything else
possible that was running and making sure all aspects of the .exe were
set to "run as administrator". Everything seemed to install OK, but
upon reboot I had two displays of lovely pastel rectangles and a totally
unresponsive computer.

So, just what did ATI test these drivers on? :)

well thanks...but I am not running out and getting another new card...no $$
left after all the upgrades I had to do to test Vista!. :( LOL... however
I'll keep that in mind if I get another pc.

Ati sucks. Hardware is cheapest Scumm and Drivers are a Mess.No Matter what
Operating System.

Go get a Geforce - you will never buy Ati again ;) Prices are equal, so just
try it next time you buy a card.

I had both an Nvidia GeForce FX5200 and an ATI Raedeon 9250. The ATI card slowed down every system I have. However, the Nvidia seemed to make thing much faster. I eventually pitched the ATI card into the trash. I would never buy an ATI over an Nvidia card.

ATI video cards are GREAT! I used them for years. I already used 6 different
ATI video cards in Vista with NO problem!

GeForce video cards is really cheap crap! Hardly NO tech support, NOT even a
support phone number to call.

On the other hand, if I need to contact via email or call ATI tech support,
they always come through and solve any issue I may have.

OKay...Okay...I got it guys...NEVER buy an ATI card again...meanwhile back at
the zoo...the media center is still waiting to work...and I missed the
evening news...again! :(

I can't help you with your problem. However,
I have 4 computers- 3 have ATI cards and
1 has an Nvidia. All four work just fine.

On this laptop I have the ATI 9700 and
it works absolutely great. I'll admit this
isn't my mobile laptop. I had this laptop
built to be a desktop. You won't find
many laptops with a P4 3.40Ghz w/HT.
Not good on battery power, but it's an always
plugged in laptop. If I need to take it some
place, I can.

Anyway, ATI makes great video cards.

Well now Michael...I do have to agree...up until now all 7 of my
current/former pc's or laptops had ATI cards and I never had any issues/ever.
Of course I have only tested Office applications and never an OS...I am sure
down the road ATI will fix the WDM drivers. It just strange that it worked
on Beta 2...but of course I was able to download the program disk then; and
now it won't let me. I did report the issues to ATI and Microsoft...I guess
I just need to learn patience...and figure out how to fix my XP...and maybe
work on the permission thing with Vista and there won't be any issues once
again! Who knows...maybe the next new OS will have problems with the NVIDIA
cards...LOL! :)

...and stay away from CA with their antivirus; I tried it 3 times, everytime
crashed my computer; had to go to safe mode and deinstall before I could boot
normally again.

Avast worked fine on my second try... So probably the better choice!

Funny, before I went to Avast, I had CA's etrust AV vista beta working
nicely in RC1. Are you sure you got the right version?
