When going to Personalize | Desktop Background, from the images displayed to
be
selected... all the images are the same. Pointing at each image does show
the correct
name and selecting one will change the desktop background. What's missing
that
makes all displayed images the same?

Perhaps what I should have described is that the "thumbnails" I see are
all the same. Pointing at any of them displays the image name. In other
words, with the selection window maximized, I can't see what the new desktop
background is going to be without closing out the selection window. I can
of
course resize the selection window and see part of the new desktop. That
just
seems to not be the way it should work.

Open Control Panel => Folder Options
In the View tab, uncheck the following option:

Always show icons, never thumbnails

Click OK.
