My daughters computer has Wallpaper and no task bar or icons on screen. She
does have "yahoo" that opens so IE must be working. How do I get the task bar
and icons back ???
She is going crazy without her computer.

Just a thought....if you right-click on the desktop, you should be able to
select the first item which is Arrange Icons by . . . from that menu select
"Show Desktop Icons" which is in the bottom section of the list.

As for the Start/Quicklaunch/system tray, is it hiding at the bottom of the
screen? Check by moving your mouse to the bottom, if it goes into a black
up and down arrow, click and drag it up.

Hope this helps.

Hii, See the cursor status if its a pointer or is showing a hourglass. this
will show that if sometihngs is loading or if its idle.

(1) Scan ur system for viruses and worms always use a good antivirus and
antispyware software. here are few.

http://safety.live.com (online scanner)
www.windowsonecare.com (ms antivirus)
www.freeav.com (avera antivir)
www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx (windows
defender)

(2) Hotkeys should be still accessible press windows button and R for runbox
type eventvwr.msc for event viewer see the error logs.

(3) Analyse the error logs from event viewer to identify the problem.

(4) Open taskmanager to see if explorer.exe is loaded if its not then run
explorer.exe from taskbar new or windows run. this shd load explorer as
shell and show ur taskbar and icons.

(5) If u just want the interface back and dont have any settings like
outlook or anything configured then create a new user by typing control in
windows run.

Hope this helps...,
Umesh Thota.

What I have is an "arrow" cursor. I am unable to do anything other than move
it around the screen and absolutely nothing happens. No start menu...no
nothing

hit ctrl-alt-delete and bring up Task Manager. Click on "File" then "New Task
(run)",
and type "explorer.exe" in the window, then click "ok"

I am having the exact same problem. I tried restoring to a previous point,
reinstalled the OS (XP Home) and have search the internet for fixes. I have
updated and ran Norton anti-virus and a HitMan Pro 2. I can navigate through
the task manager and start any program through DOS commands, but explorer.exe
will not start.
