W2K3 DC in W2K domain

Hi,
We have a single domain W2000 forest. Recently we lost the root DC and could
not restore it.
We had tanother DC sieze the roles and added another temporary DC for
resilience.
I now wish to rebuild the original and make it a DC again.
My question is whether I can install W2003 on it and make it a DC in a W2000
domain and what consequences if any this would have on future upgrades to
W2K3/EX2K3.

You can do, but you'll need to upgrade the schema first. Obviously, you'll
need to keep the functional level at 2K native or mixed until you've
upgraded the other DC's
