It's now some months past previous June or July release dates for prior SP's to the W2K OS.

Microsoft has released finally SP2 for XP, so when for will they release SP5 for W2K. Moreover, will they be releasing the promised SP for 2003 any time soon.

Should re-installation, or repair, be necessary I like to work from CD's slip-streamed to the most recent "full" SP revision-level. It's currently an absolute bitch updating either OS using Windows Update because neither SP has been forthcoming.

I understand that SP2 for XP took a vast amount of effort and this slowed
down development and testing for Windows Server 2003 SP1. I would expect
that to undergo some solid testing, so personally I don't expect to see it
for a good few months yet. That's just guesswork, though.

As for Windows 2000 SP5, I've heard nothing mentioned about it anywhere.

Interesting. Until you mentioned that, I'd been thinking that there would
be one more service pack. Although Windows XP will be what's on a lot of
business desktops right now (on the basis that people will buy a machine
with the latest service pack and the XP release date is within the lifetime
of the average business PC), Windows 2000 Server is still very much a
mainstream product.

Likely never. SP4 is almost cetainly it.
