Our organization uses First-, Middle-initial and Last-name for User Login-name; unfortunately I have run into one person's name which has too many characters when combined in order to be able to define him as a user on the Server.

My question:

"How does one change the size (number of characters allowed) of the entry-field in order for larger than standard names used in the Login-in Screens?"

How is this making your server be "down" ?

I don't know that you can change the limit. If you want to use this naming
convention, consider limitiing it to

First n letters of firstname
Middle initial
First n letters of last name

Wilbur George Jehosephat would be wilgjehos or something.

Why this naming convention anyway?

Server will replace existing server and whilst it has been on-stream several times for load-balancing and such, until this issue was resolved has not been brought up full-time.

Why? Vanity. Use of "real" full-names for User Login mandated by
owner. It's the owner of the company's name that is causing all the difficulties. Too, because he feels that it should be possible to change the number of characters limited to a User I. D. or Password entry-field. In theory (at least) I do happen to agree with him on the latter thought.

Mine is not to reason why (although I have argued extensively over this issue) but to try and please him if at all possible, consequently my question.
