W2K SP4 .msi Trouble

Kyle Greenup

I cant seem to get the .msi file to install on the computers here at the
network.

I have copied the entire i386 folder to a shared network folder. Proper
permissions are applied. I then point a GPO to the update.msi file
(i386\update\update.msi). I don't get any errors, so everything looks fine.
I use 'assigned instead of 'advanced'.

The computers are not having SP4 installed on boot up. They are all still
on SP3.

I got the i386 folder during a manual installation on my machine. I copied
it out of the temporary folder that it created on my C drive.

Another quirky thing, every time that my computer boots, it actually says
"Installing managed software ....SP4..." like it should, but it happens only
on my computer and it happens every time that I boot (not just once, like it
should).

I have read a lot into this and cannot seem to find my problem.

Please help!

Thank you,
Kyle

Have you tried installing other MSI packages by assigning them to this
machine?

We also got severe trouble, when rolling out SP4 on our PCs.
Currently lots of PCs (some hundreds) in our company are affected.

e.g.
Outlook2k is starting and closing or requesting
"original installation media".

Currently this is a severe problem for our company!
Any hint is apreciated..
