W2K Router, unable to route over Serial Links?

hi everyone,
ok we got 2 windows servers on 2 ends of a leased line. the lines have been
plugged in modems on each end, and the modems have been plugged in a COM
port on the server. now the problem is, we want IP routing between the
servers, which is not possible at the moment. the reason is because we can't
assign an IP address to the serial interface in Routing and Remote Access in
windows. (if it was an actual router, it would be a piece o' cake,
ofcourse). so what gives? is there any possible way to assign an IP subnet
to both serial ends?

Serial |______| ethernet
Srv2

With a dialup on VPN connection, you use demand-dial interfaces as the
endpoints so that you can add the routes. The routes need to be linked to
interfaces, not just ports.

How to you bring up the connection (or is it always on)? To configure
routing in RRAS, you will definitely need an interface to route through.
