Hi,
Little experience with VPN/Remote desktop so scuse any dumb questions/steps.

Desire:
To connect to my home PC from work for the hell of it.
Computers:
Home Win XP Pro
Work Win 2k Pro.
Home config:
Allow remote connection enabled (my user account)
VPN from the Internet enabled on my firewall.
Work config:
New network connection. VPN via network.
IP, username, password supplied.
Error:
The remote modem/telephone line did not respond.

Did I miss a step?
Event viewer shows nothing.
Is this logged somewhere (home PC)?

Did you set up trusted ip's in your home firewall? Usually you have to set
the firewall to trust your work(wan) ip address, so it will let the
connection thru. I use zone alarm firewall and have it set to trust my work
ip and when it tries to connect to let it thru at the port I have
specified(I changed the remote desktop default ports).

Jay:

1) Protect your job. Notify your IT people you would like to do this.

2) At work, you need two connectoids:
One for the dialup connection
Another for the VPN connection

3) For more info, post in: microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely

I hadn't, I'll make a note of my work IP and add it to my Firewall (Kerio)
as a trusted area.
Kerio makes no mention of port numbers though.
How can I view/change port setting in XP Pro?

The default port is 3389. To change it to something else(for better
security) check here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306759
Once you get it setup you connect to the ip number:port (ex:
255.255.255.255:7878)
I works great, I'm using it right now.
