How do I start VPN at bootup and ensure that it keeps running?

I have set up a VPN which is used to download data from a remote server.
The software that fetches the data requires the VPN to be connected in order
to function. If I reboot my PC the VPN conncection is lost and the fetching
software does not work.

How do I set up the VPN to connect automatically at boot time? I've tried
to set up an automated task with the command "radial <connection name>
<username> <password>" but it doesn't seem to connect when I reboot my PC.
How do I ensure that the connection is maintained continuously?

This must all function while the computer is logged out - it functions as a
"headless" machine.

Maybe if you try using the rasdial entryname [username [password]
command in a Machine startup script? (Instead of a User logon script).

Thanks.

That seems to have fixed the problem.
