Cannot establish VPN connection

Hello,

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2(pre-installed) machine. Two weeks ago I
created a VPN account in my desktop computer. I was able to establish
the connection. I use a LinkSys router with all the necessary ports
open for the VPN, ZoneAlarm as the software firewall and the Windows
Firewall service is running.

About a week ago, I used my laptop(WinXP Pro, SP2) to make the VPN
connection and I made it successfully. Now when I am trying to connect
from my desktop I get the Error 691. The dialog hangs for a while when
verifying username and password and then I get the 691 error.

I don't know if the fact that I connected from my laptop has to do
something, but I think that I failed to connect to the VPN from my
desktop after using my laptop. (Both pc used the linksys router).

Any clue?

You do not require a VPN connection if your desktop and laptop are on the same
network, Are the two PCs connected to the Linksys router? If yes, just
enable File sharing.

VPN connection are normally used when connecting to a PC that is remotely on a
different network, elsewhere on the Internet.

No I am not trying to share files. I want the VPN connection to connect
to a remote computer. I just tried to do this connection with both
pc's.

At first I connected with my desktop.
About a week later I did the same connection with my laptop and then
when I tried to connect with my desktop I failed.

I have checked the IP and the credentials just in case I had made a
mistake in them but everything was ok.

I mentioned the router because as it seems the router is not the
problem since I'm using the same router at home. And I did not try to
connect to the remote pc using both computers at the same time.

I am having this exact same problem. I have it on Linksys, Belkin, and
Netgear routers, so it's not a router problem. I was working just fine until
one of the Windows updates, now I get the 691 error. In addition, I can't get
to my company's website ('cause it shares the same IP address as the VPN) for
at least 30minutes-an hour after the VPN failure.

Any ideas out there??????
